WELCOME

Dr. Ziad A. El-Sahn completed his undergraduate studies and received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt in 2002. From 2002 to 2005 he was working as a research and teaching assistant at Alexandria University. In 2005, he received his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Alexandria University with a thesis entitled "Random Access Protocols for Future Optical CDMA Networks". Afterwards, Dr. El-Sahn joined the Centre d'Optique, Photonique et Laser (COPL) at Université Laval, Québec, Canada, where he received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2010 with a thesis entitled "Smooth Upgrade of Existing FTTH Access Networks: SAC-OCDMA and Dense SS-WDM Solutions". From 2010 to 2012 Dr. El-Sahn was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Photonics Systems Group (PSG) at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. During that period, Dr. El-Sahn has worked on optical access networks, and coherent optical transmission systems.

Dr. El-Sahn is an Assistant Professor at the Electrical Engineering Department, Alexandria University (currently on-leave). His main research is in optical communications and systems. Dr. El-Sahn is also the founder of the Photonics Group at Alexandria University, and he is a member at the SmartCI Center of Research Excellence at Alexandria University.

From 2017, Dr. El-Sahn has moved to Canada to join Infinera as a Senior Systems Design Engineer, where he is working on the design of digital signal processing (DSP) engines for current/next generation coherent optical systems. In late 2020, he was promoted to a Staff Systems Design Engineer, and continues to work in the design of optical coherent modems.
